For the past few months, drinking lemon water as soon as I wake up has been an essential part of my routine. The sharp, zesty flavour is a great way to wake you up and kick start you day! But who would have thought that something so simple could have sooo many health benefits?!
It is important to make sure you use room temperature or lukewarm water because it is believed that using cold water will shock your body and digestive system, which will prevent the health benefits from working as well. After drinking the lemon water, wait 15 to 30 minutes before eating your breakfast.
All I do is fill a mug with water and microwave it for approximately 20 seconds. Then cut a lemon in half and squeeze one half into the water. (If you’re new to this, you might want to start off with a smaller amount of juice if the taste is going to be too strong for you.)
There is one downside to regularly drinking lemon water. The citric acid can affect the enamel on your teeth. To prevent this from happening and lessen the acidity, I like to drink it through a straw. This allows the liquid to avoid your teeth altogether. It is also recommended to make sure you dilute the lemon juice by mixing it with at least 250mL of warm water.
